I am SO relieved Blogger is still around. I can and will not wrap my head around Substack. You have to log in, subscribe, unsubscribe to all the emails they send you, and also pay to read? But sometimes you don't have to pay to read? I refuse to compute.
I also made my way around Squarespace over the years and that cost me hundreds and you can't go back and look at your site easily. And look what's waiting for me right here - all of my blogs going back to 2008. Can pick up right where I left off. It's too bad Google has fully evolved into an evil, genocidal, AI tech overlord in the meantime. They say there is no ethical consumption in capitalism and don't we feel that every single day. Everything I have written and everything I will ever write online has probably already been fed into a large language model (LLM, an abbreviation I hate to know) and that's not any way I want to live on in this world into forever.
Caveat, I'd like to propose a theme for this time period we're living through. Something along the lines of:
- The Great Tech Takeover
- Silicon Valley of the Dolls
- The Great Brand Bait and Switch
- The Great Brandits
My entire youth and entry into adulthood, and now full adulthood, has been framed by exciting new companies and industry disrupters evolving into tools to end all humanity. I wish I could say I was exaggerating. Facebook? Ruined elections, made people believe anything, and now stole everyone's content to feed into AI. Instagram? Cute indie app now a tool in Meta's conglomerate. Airbnb? Destroying neighborhoods, cities and accelerating soulless gentrification. Uber? The list goes on.
The later 2010s brands also failed us. Everlane recently sold into the SHEIN universe. I spent hours pouring over their website, learning about all of their ethical factory practices, filling my cart with staples I could never quite afford. Late stage capitalism has truly felt more soulless than expected. 2026 has been the battle against data centers, who's operators menacingly and terrifyingly are foaming at the mouth to destroy our fresh water supplies ever faster. HOW could any human take in the information of our ongoing and impending climate disaster and fall over themselves to make it infinitely worse? Not to mention the noise pollution, chemical pollution and mind pollution these AI centers create.
It doesn't even help to know mankind has always been selfish, murderous and money-driven through every generation. That "people have always been people" intensifies the desperation for those in power to change course. Feeling the powerlessness in every area of society. I've barely scratched the surface of what we've been enduring so no wonder life has been heavy.
Let's dabble into what was going to be a cute little life lately post:
1. We went to Shopping Savassi, I was on a mission to find warm clothes like PANTS. (Why did I only pack white aerie pants, black walmart yoga pants, and two lululemon leggings??) Packing minimalist is not for me. Anyways, here's a cute lil dress I didn't get because #focusedonthegoals. I did find sweatpants (that are totally floods and has a wonky hem I found out later) a matching knit collared shirt, a flannel-y long sleeve and a new hair clip.
2. It's Drag Race Allstars season and I'm so treasuring Vivacious right now.
3. Copa do Mundo is coming.... and Cece has been obsessed with sniffing this neighbor's yard specifically this week like it's her job. Hopefully the rats aren't hanging out there yikes.
4. Had this chicken caesar-ish salad last night and it restored my life. I've missed crunchy iceburg lettuce.
5. Footage of the new all-maroon fit and finally could bring out the jean jacket that's been hanging in my closet for six months. Also attempted a grease-slick-back because I was waiting to wash my hair until I could borrow a hair dryer and not freeze.
6. Cece's been sleeping on her makeshift blanket bed (next to me) mostly but she'll randomly pop up and resume this...
That's all for now, ttyl. Waiting for our food to arrive and then will find bootleg Tony's coverage. Also Love Island is back tonight so I am BUSY.
